New E-Book this month - GUARDIAN
OF DARKNESS
This month's Ebook is
one of my favorites... okay, I know, they're all my favorites, but this one has something really special. If you haven't
read it yet, then I would encourage you to do so. This one is a keeper. Here's
the book jacket summary: 1200 A.D. - After
decades of warring between the Lairds of Kerr and Prudhoe Castle in Northumbria, a tentative peace is reached. The Lady
Carington Kerr is sent to Prudhoe as a hostage to ensure her father’s good behavior, and a more reluctant hostage there
never was. Small and dark, with emerald eyes and a luscious figure, she is as gorgeous as she is firey. Enter Sir Creed
de Reyne; a gentle giant of a man, he is, by nature, calm and wise. He is the ice to Carington’s fire. As Carington
resists the attempts to keep her in her English prison, Creed is placed in charge of the captive as both jailer and protector.
But he is also as reluctant a protector as she is a hostage; six months prior, he had been given the important assignment
of escorting Isabella of Angoulệme from France to England as the bride of King John. Isabella, a woman-child of
twelve years, was smitten with Creed from the start. When he spurned her advances, she fabricated a story of Creed’s
indiscretions against her and brought the king’s wrath upon him. Creed fled to Prudhoe and straight into another
assignment guarding a firebrand of a young woman. But he soon discovers that Carington is far different from the petty
child who would become queen and against both his judgment and his wishes, he finds himself falling for the Scots lass.
But neither Isabella nor the king are done with him yet, and Creed and Carington must fight for their very survival
as two countries and a kingdom seek to separate them. What this summary
doesn't tell you is the intricacies of what go on in this novel. A book jacket can only tell you so much; I can tell
you that Creed is a remarkable knight and his bond with his brother, who is also his commander, runs very deep.
It is because of his brother that he's forced to play escort and protector for the hostage, Carington Kerr, a gorgeous woman
who flys off the handle at the slightest provocation. Given that Creed is a very collected and calm type of personality,
it's very funny to watch the interaction between him and Carington in the beginning. As these two are falling for each
other, we also have a very nasty character named Jory, a fellow knight who is as slimy and ruthless as they come. The problem
is that he's an earl's bastard son, so he is treated with kid gloves. The guy knows he can get away with stuff and, believe
me, he tries, but Creed is always there to pound the crap out of him. Jory is one of the most hated characters I've
ever created. You'll hate the guy but he makes great antagonist! So while Creed
and Cari are falling for each other, and Jory is plotting, there's a host of other crap going on, just waiting to hit the
fan at the appropriate moment. That's the only way to describe it. There's a conniving lady in waiting who is
after Creed, a priest who follows Creed and Carington around, and on top of everything, King John is out to get Creed because
his wife, Isabella, has delivered a child and is telling everyone that it's Creed's baby. Wow! Can it get any worse for this
pair? Oh... yes, it can. And it does. Read what it means to love, to live, and to give up everything for the sake of
righteousness. You'll come away wishing Creed was either your husband or brother; I promise you. Read and enjoy!
