Guardian of Darkness - Historical (Medieval) Romance

darkcov.jpg

1200 A.D. - After decades of warring between the Lairds of Kerr and Prudhoe Castle in Northumbria, a tentative peace is reached.  The Lady Carington Kerr is sent to Prudhoe as a hostage to ensure her father’s good behavior, and a more reluctant hostage there never was.  Small and dark, with emerald eyes and a luscious figure, she is as gorgeous as she is firey. Enter Sir Creed de Reyne; a gentle giant of a man, he is, by nature, calm and wise. He is the ice to Carington’s fire. As Carington resists the attempts to keep her in her English prison, Creed is placed in charge of the captive as both jailer and protector.  But he is also as reluctant a protector as she is a hostage; six months prior, he had been given the important assignment of escorting Isabella of Angoulệme from France to England as the bride of King John.  Isabella, a woman-child of twelve years, was smitten with Creed from the start. When he spurned her advances, she fabricated a story of Creed’s indiscretions against her and brought the king’s wrath upon him.  Creed fled to Prudhoe and straight into another assignment guarding a firebrand of a young woman.  But he soon discovers that Carington is far different from the petty child who would become queen and against both his judgment and his wishes, he finds himself falling for the Scots lass.  But neither Isabella nor the king  are done with him yet, and Creed and Carington must fight for their very survival as two countries and a kingdom seek to separate them.

Lord of the Shadows - Historical (Medieval) Romance

LOTS3311.jpg

1215 A.D. – The reign of King John were dark days for all of England. Not one man, woman or child lived without fear. Magnifying this fear is the man they call The Lord of the Shadows - a terrifying figure that sits at the right hand of the King, manipulating the royal moves like a puppet master. The Lord of the Shadows has been known to tear men apart with his bare hands and can, with a snap of his fingers, alter the future of anyone he chooses. The nobility is terrified of him, and for good reason.  That is - the nobility that know of his existance. Lady Sheridan St. James has been drawn into the political arena by her father; having no sons, he shares all with his eldest daughter, a stunningly beautiful and bright creature. Upon his death, Sheridan finds herself at the head of the mighty House of St. James, a major leader in the rebellion against the crown. Upon her first visit to London, she becomes acquainted with a massive knight who has, in kindness, saved her sister’s life. She has no idea that Sir Sean de Lara is the man known as The Lord of the Shadows. Even when she is told of his horrible deeds, she still cannot not believe it. Sheridan and Sean draw close without the influence of the horrendous affairs of state sweeping London. All she knows is that he is handsome and kind, and although Sean is well aware of the lady’s status, it makes no difference that she is, in perception, his enemy.  To him, she is quickly becoming his reason for living. But out of necessity, his responsibilities to the king become stronger than his love for Sheridan and he is forced to perform his duties or risk death to them both. Still, he swears to her that his days as the Shadow Lord are numbered even as rival factions cruelly separated them. It soon becomes a test of Sean and Sheridan’s love to find each other again in a world that is determined to keep them apart.

THE TITAN

This is one of the 'original' Epics. This is a tremendously powerful story of Sir Bose de Moray and the Lady Summer du Bonne. Bose was the Captain of the Guard for King Henry until Bose's wife's untimely death in childbirth. Blaming himself and wanting to be free of the memories, he resigns his post and joins the tournament circuit to compete for money and fame. But dark rumors follow Bose; his mother-in-law is a vicious woman who blames Bose for her daughter's death. She starts nasty rumors that Bose murdered his wife.  With a cloud of suspicion hanging over his head, enter the Lady Summer du Bonne. A beautiful woman with a stammering problem, she has been kept hidden away from the world by her embarrassed father and protective brothers. Summer meets Bose at a tournament hosted by her brothers and for Bose, it is love at first sight. But the dark rumors plague his attempts to get to know the lady, who is attracted to him as well.  Summer's drunken father eventually pledges his daughter to Bose, but Bose's mother-in-law interferes and Summer's father decides to pledge Summer to another man. Bose and Summer elope but Bose is brought up on charges of thievery.  With a death sentence hanging over his head, only love and the king can save Bose and restore his honor.

Be advised that this novel is extremely long and written in a 'flourished' style, but it is a beautiful love story and well worth the read.

Present Day: "Lady of Heaven" stars Dr. Fox Henredon, a British Egyptologist and museum curator, and Morgan Sherburn, a cop from Los Angeles who, while cleaning out her family's manor after the death of her great-grandfather, stumbles across her great-grandmother's journal from her trip to Egypt back in the 1920's.  Morgan has been told that her great-grandmother died in Egypt of a fever but she comes to discover through the journal that her great-grandmother may have been murdered because of a mysterious papyrus that is still in the family's possession. She enlists Dr. Henredon to help her figure out the mystery, but when those two come together, the sparks fly.  Morgan is determined to go to Egypt to track the clues of the "Lady of Heaven" papyrus, an ancient document alluding to the tomb of the goddess Isis, and Fox goes with her. Together, they have some of the wildest adventures ever - I don't want to give the plot away but suffice it to say that this story has more twists and turns than a windy mountain road. Old legends become truth, friends turn out to be enemies, and in the middle of it, Morgan discovers the truth about her great-grandmother that she could have never imagined.  Even though this is an adventure novel, the romance is the strongest aspect of it. The recurring theme is the dedication of family and of true love.

Gabriel “Gart” Forbes is the most powerful knight in the arsenal of David de Lohr, Baron Thornden, brother to the mighty Earl of Hereford.  When Julian de Moyon, Baron Buckland, summons Thornden for critical support, Gart travels to Dunster Castle to meet with Buckland.  Upon arrival, he is set upon by three young boys who try to rob him, all sons of Baron Buckland.  Gart discovers that their mother, the Lady Emberley de Moyon, is the sister of his long-dead best friend. Remembering the lovely young girl from the days of his youth, Gart quickly realizes she has grown into a woman of magnificent beauty.  He also comes to realize that Julian is a monster who beats his wife.  At first, Gart is protective of an old friend but soon, he cannot control the emotions he is feeling for Emberley.  A beaten and emotionally starved woman, Emberley cannot help her feelings for a man she has loved most of her life. Succumbing to a forbidden love, Gart and Emberley find powerful allies in Baron Thornden and the Earl of Hereford as they plot to convince Julian to divorce his wife. Adding to the chaos is the fact that Julian has taken up in a love affair with Queen Isabella.  When the queen begins to find interest in another man, Julian is furious and wants to use Emberley to make the queen jealous.  Gart, however, keeps Emberley well hidden from her husband, even as the Church seeks to intervene. Through trickery, Julian discovers where Gart has hidden his wife and traps the woman, intending to kill her for her treachery.   Gart is unable to help her, listening to her screams of terror, when aid comes from the most unexpected of sources.  Divine intervention comes in many forms in this deeply passionate love story.
